Overview

An independent study in which consisted of software developers, engineers, as well as my position of a UX designer, to collaborate, brainstorm ideas, and develop a MVP for the purpose of creating a pitch.

In retrospect, as the role of the UX designer with experience in user research, I generated a plan in which consisted of the following:

(a.) User Research
(b.) Wireframes
(c.) Prototypes
(d.) Usability Testing

User Research

In order to remain time-efficient and cost-effective, a survey was generated in order to identify and distinguish the needs, wants, frustrations, and pain points that users experience when job seeking within the tech field. Being that team members shared contrasting perspectives on the features of the deliverable MVP, it was important to obtain clarity and transparency via user research.

The user research addressed the following aspects:

(a.) Challenges users encountered during job seeking process
(b.) User demographics
(c.) Ways to accomplish user goals

Wireframes and Prototypes

After assessing the discoveries presented in our research findings, I was able to identify that creating an accessible mobile app that addresses the users needs for mentorship and industry connections was the ultimate goal to accomplish. In order to complete the process, wireframes and prototypes needed to be developed as a MVP for usability testing.

A pencil and paper was used for the process of wireframes whereas Figma was incorporated to accomplish the process of prototyping. The main objective was to create a user-centered and interactive MVP that did not have a complex interface, simple to understand, as well as user-friendly

Low-Fidelity

After I was able to identify and distinguish the overall navigation of the app, I started to sketch low-fidelity wireframes that addressed the users needs and wants

Mid-Fidelity

Next, I included UI elements during the process of creating mid-fidelity wireframes to support the functionality of the app when operated by users

Finally, I completed an official and finalized version of the prototype that included high-fidelity screens

Usability Testing

In order to ensure that the prototype addressed the needs and wants of the users, it was imperative to connect with 3 of the survey participants to participate in a brief usability testing session. However, prior to connecting to the participants, I made sure to connect with members of the team to test the prototype and identify any existing frictions, content, and/or user interactions that require modifications.

The usability testing revealed that users were able to comprehend the functionality of the prototype as well as the goal it is attempting to accomplish

Conclusion

In retrospect, the MVP was able to not only exhibit the proposal but also present the ideas and discoveries found in the completed prototype. I was able to determine that (a.) user research is extremely important to validate and guide the objectives, (b.) the MVP was user-friendly and simple to operate for users, (c.) the MVP focused on the two core features, (d.) the high quality visuals were used well to complement the functionality of the MVP, and (e.) the roadmap, in terms of scalability, was able to address partnerships
